new laptop / ubuntu

September 21st, 2007 by Eric Socia

well, it’s about time.
i have a new laptop.

HP Pavillion DV2415us
1GB RAM
160GB HardDrive
Intel Core Duo

and the kicker…
it’s currently running Ubuntu 7.04
w00t!

and thus, i have discovered Ubuntu now owns my world. i can’t believe what i’ve been missing. my life is SO much easier now. (not to mention having the new laptop to begin with, which is much faster than my previous p.o.s.)

customizable to the extreme, faster boot-up process, much more secure, and did i mention… completely free? gorgeous.

i know that i should have been using this amazing OS eons ago, but my old laptop would not run any distro of linux AT ALL. i tried EVERYthing. but, alas, that part of my life is over. GOODBYE MICROSOFT! i’m done.

Ubuntu is okay from the little I’ve seen.

I’m more of a debian fan and so Knoppix is my choice of bootable CD that installs to harddrive if you want.

And if you ever find there are windoze apps you need to run it is worth putting together a qemu image with win98 installed.

    That’s great.
But I think fedora is more user friendly than ubuntu. I am using fedora and i like it’s GUI. I think you should try once fedora on your laptop
    Enjoy with your laptop.

what apps do you run? I’ve been tempted to get it on my laptop, which is an older centrino. Hoping for some speed increase over XP but I need a decent photoediting app.
