I think picking a niche is the easiest way to move upward fast for SEO. Technorati might have more to do with the popularity of your writing.

Finding a voice for your blog is one of the hardest things to do. I've been blogging for most of the year now and I still haven't committed to one specific niche. I don't think I want to. I blog about the things that interest me. So far it's been working for the most part.

It can be a long journey. Setting goals is a great idea, but make sure you don't make the goal the number one priority. Like Frank C says, creating content really is the best thing you can do. After all, it doesn't do much good to get people to your site if there's nothing there to keep them coming back. I have a lot of content now but it's still a struggle to keep people coming back. I just keep writing about the things that interest me so that I never feel like I'm trying to please anyone but myself. So far that's helped me reach a lot of my goals.

I'm certain you can reach your Technorati goal in no time if you keep at it.

thanks for the advice :)
i actually came to that realization somewhat shortly after writing that post, and have (for the time being at least) let that idea go for now.

as for sources of content, thanks again for the tip. i've actually decided on focusing my efforts and narrowing down what i want this blog to really be all about, and have so far decided to keep it centered around what it takes to make it in the blogging world (as evident from my tagline =P) and (hopefully) soon i'll be able to start adding how-to's and tips of my own on the subject.

thanks again for the feedback!

My recommendation is to think Content, Content, Content. The reason people favorite your site, stumble or digg your site, or blog about your site is your content. I recommend setting specific content goals first and then you'll find the rest following afterward.

Since you seem to be into Ubuntu Linux, one source of content you might consider is writing guidebook like articles for the new Ubuntu based Google (GoS) PC's that they're starting to sell at Wal-Mart. Most Linux sites aren't written on the average Wal-Mart shopper's level so that might represent an opportunity for you.
