Crazy Traffic Boost - My Second In Less Than A Week!

by Eric Socia

Thanks to BloggingZoom, i’ve been getting a relatively good and somewhat steady flow of traffic coming to me over the past few days. That all started with my first submission, Don’t Quit Your Day Job, or: What to Do When Your Girlfriend Thinks Your Blog is a Waste of Time, which spiked my traffic from next-to-nothing, up to about 74 hits, in the span of less than an hour, which i thought was absolutely incredible. Apparently, i hadn’t seen nothin’ yet.

StumbleUpon is a wonderfully fun service that is great for killing time online when you can’t think of anything specific you want to look up. I had never even considered its potential for bloggers until a couple days ago, after reading a few posts about other bloggers using it to drive traffic to their sites. It was then that i realized what an awesome and powerful tool it could be. So i clicked the thumb’s-up sign while viewing my post (Don’t Quit Your Day Job, mentioned above) to submit the url to StumbleUpon, and i didn’t get the normal “discovery” pop-up dialog. The thumb’s-up icon simply turned green, meaning that somebody had already stumbled that page!! Incredible! I immediately signed on and sent the user (who happened to be Frank from OpTempo.com) a message thanking him for doing so.

Next, i went into my WP-Live and watched as the hits kept on coming! I ended up getting around 170 hits, yesterday alone! As for today…
277 hits in less than 24 hours!
I know this is miniscule compared to other blogs, but to me, this is a breakthrough. :) I’m now feeling much more confident about what i’m doing here, and that’s keeping me motivated to try even harder.

Out of curiosity, i’d like to hear when it was that you realized that you had the potential to stick around and actually make it in the blogging world. What were the contributing factors? Did you get a boost in traffic like i did and realize that you had a shot? Or was it something else completely? Leave a comment and let me know.

Glad to hear it Eric! There are actually a ton of active stumblers that are using BZ! I knew that I had the potential to stick around and make it as soon as the haters started popping up. ;)

Glad to have helped you Eric,

I’m trying to use the power of social bookmarking to promote new blogs I run across that have good articles but are going unnoticed. Getting the ball rolling and not getting discouraged is difficult when you’re just starting out.

I was blogging for about 4 months on my software development blog before I got significant traffic. Now it gets between 400-500 unique visitors a day, even when I don’t post as regularly. OpTempo isn’t to that point yet but it’s growing.

Hi Eric

This truely demostrated the AWESOME power one can harness from social bookmarking!

My blogging routine has largely been focus at writing, commenting and the occasional stumble here and there.

Now I’ll have to consider employing a new strategy to further grow my blog and its traffic.

Heck, I still don’t know if I can “make it” in the blogging world. I’m just having fun and enjoying myself. If other people enjoy reading what I write that’s good. If I someday make money so much the better. I have no plans to quit my day job anytime soon!

Congratulations, that’s wonderful! If you keep using StumbleUpon you can get 3,000+ unique hits in one day (it’s happened to me). StumbleUpon is one of the greatest ways to get traffic out there.

I use Blogging Zoom as well and I have to say it’s my favorite out of other sites it is like (Digg, etc.)

Keep up the good work!

Like you, I have been having fun with the Blogging Zoom/StumbleUpon thing this week. I have been Stumbling a lot of the Zoomed pages that I find really good.
I think this is just the start.

Hmmm, after reading this i may start a blog from my site, since there’s tons of car info to blog about. Only problem is that since there are so many car blogs, i would have a tough time getting traffic.

Wow, that’s a major boost. It’s not bad at all. I’m actually surprised that it is that fast! I heard people claim these kind of things before, but I never believed it.
