My Biggest Secret Kept From The Blogging World: REVEALED

November 19th, 2007 by Eric Socia

Ok, so it’s time for me to come clean. There’s a side of me that I’ve been neglecting for a while and therefore have not shared with you. But, alas, it’s come back to my attention and it’s currently at the front of my mind, so I might as well share it with you now.

I’m a wanna-be poet.

Yep. That’s right. I said it.

So while I’m at it, I guess I owe you an example of what I mean. Here’s an example of something I wrote back in ‘05:

the seismic triggers in my fingertips
protrude with force
through the space between our breaths.
you, the magnet,
and i, a corrugated shard
of fragmented steelwork,
fly with tremendous speed
on a path straight into the flames
until we collide into captivity
and whisper the secret to everything.

i could be your secret.

just take me as you will and leave it at that.
nobody has to know
about our nuclear love.
our mechanical romance.

you could be my favorite.

this ain’t no game,
but you’ve won me over with a glance
and i can’t tell you
how i’m so into you that,
if the Bomb dropped right this second,
i’d wish to kiss my last living breath
to you.

if you could read the words
inscribed on the roof of my mouth,
you would know all the things
i wish i could say to you.

but scars stay solid on skin
when it all comes down
and there’s no eraser within reach.
of course you wouldn’t want me,
i’m a holocaust of emotions
that has burned my past lovers.
scolded their footsoldiers.
and sautered shut any open wounds
left by the heat of another.
and there has always been
somebody
there for me and
now that i’m on my own once again,
i’m scared.
but you scare me more.

without fear and a crippled ego,
i might be able to tell you that i want you.

& the nightingales never sang a song so sweet
as the whispers i hear every night.
you see,
i’ve been having this dream.
& in this dream
it’s always my favorite time of the day
and you’re always walking through that door
and i always want to smile at you
and say “welcome home”
but when i try to speak,
i find my mouth is sewn shut
with razor wire
and the blood on my mouth makes you scream
and you’re always screaming in this dream.
but tonight,
i hope to dream of a time to come,
when i can actually tell you.
when i can actually, finally say,
“hey. i like your style.”

Hah! Thanks Frank, I think =P
I actually have a book of Serj Tankian’s poetry. He’s actually a much better poet than he is a singer. People don’t listen closely enough to his words I think.

Well thank you Tay :) This is like 2, almost 3, years old. I don’t write as much as I used to, though. Keep an eye out, maybe I’ll post more of my favorites that I’ve written.

Thank you very much! Even though I don’t personally believe I’m all that good at writing, it’s still very nice to hear someone compliment me on it. :)

I actually do have an older poetry blog floating around somewhere..
I may have to consider starting up a new one. We’ll see, I guess. ;)
