Any Sprint/Nextel Users Out There?
by Eric SociaSo I recently decided I needed a new cellphone and cell provider. Badly. Lets put it this way: my current phone (Kyocera SliderSonic) doesn’t hold a charge for any longer than 5 or 6 hours. It also feels like it’s starting to fall apart. And, it sometimes decides to unplug itself from the charger at random intervals. And I don’t mean that the plug jumps out of the phone, I mean the phone just all of a sudden acts like it’s been unplugged and stops charging. Lame.
So a couple of buddies of mine have had Sprint/Nextel for about 5-6 months now. They both have the HTC Mogul PocketPC, with an SERO (Sprint Employee Referral Offer) plan that provides them with amazing discounts on their monthly bills. So, I checked around, and found a SERO deal myself, and looked into it. Sweet-Ass Deal, lemme tell you.
Anyway, I’ve ordered my phone (also the HTC Mogul) and am waiting for it to be delivered. So what I’d like to know is this: Does anyone out there have Sprint/Nextel and if so, what are your thoughts and concerns with their service/coverage and their customer service. I’ve already read through hundreds of horror stories, but I’d like to know if any of my readers have different opinions. I’m pretty much locked into it at this point, but I’d just like to know what I could be getting myself into so I can be prepared to deal with it. =P
Oh, and if you don’t know what this SERO is all about, I suggest you go check into it. ![]()

One of the programmers I work with has an ongoing fight with Sprint. She’s on the phone with their customer service every month fighting some screwed up charge on her bill. They’re at the bottom of the heap with Comcast when it comes to customer service.

Hi,
I have Sprint palm phone. It works ok, but my signal breaks a lot. I HATE their customer service! I read Consumer Reports recently and they rated Sprint very poorly.
I actually moved away from Sprint because I didn’t get coverage in my area but I am very remote and have heard that sprint are very good
I use Sprint … the coverage in my building isn’t great, but otherwise I’ve been pretty surprised. Not sure why I get better reception in the mountains than at home, but such is life. They’re not terrible, but they’re far from great … like you, I got sucked in with a good deal ( and a contract ).

I use Sprint on my personal cell and T-Mobile for work. I’ve never had a problem with Sprint service myself and I think I have been with them for around 8 years.

I’ve had problems with Sprint. Their customer service is simply horrible.
Verizon has great reception, but personally I haven’t found one that I’ve liked.
Avoid Sprint i had nothing but bad experience with them.
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!

This SERO thing sounds very interesting, but I can’t get over the horror stories about their service!
I had a sprint phone about two years ago, but I had a major disagreement with their customer service representative. I was mistakingly charged something that I should’ve have been, and they wouldn’t take it off. It was a big fight, with no real solutions.
I ended up switching to T-Mobile and I am much happier.

I had Sprint/Nextel for 5 years until 6 months ago. I found that the customer service went downhill after Sprint acquired nextel. They also don’t let you change your plan or phone without extending your contract. Good luck with them.

I used to have them but during the merger the service deterioriated so I switched, it’s been awhile so I don’t know if it’s any better now.
Nextel, since I can remember, has had a rep (amongst the people I associate with) for poor customer service and excessive add-on charges. I personally haven’t used them because of this.

I haven’t noticed a change since Sprint acquired Nextel…just the same old not very friendly customer service that we’ve been accustomed to. The coverage where I’m at is great, though I must say.

I am in the same situation. My current phone (motorola v51 I think) doesn’t even last a whole day now. Although cold temperatures up in the alpine of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains doesn’t help. Still, brand new ( about 1.5 years ago ) it would last 2-3 days, now, less then one. anyway I am looking for a new phone, and am considering the sony w850i, it has mp3 and stuff. i guess i need to realise that no phone is going to last too long when I am taking it snowboarding half the year.
I always avoid Sprint.
I love the 2 way technology. I’ve gotten quite used to keeping on contact with clients that way.
Can be a pain sometimes when people bleep you at odd hours, but that’s what power buttons are for

I use Sprint, seems to work the best. Had it for over 5 years now.
I never had problems with sprint
Sprint/Nextel is great
I own a cell phone store, and it really depends on your area and what you will be using the phone for. Sprint Nextel is loved by businesses in the construction industry because of the push to talk feature. Seeing as you are buying the mogul, I imagine you may want data service along with calling. Sprint does not lead the industry in Data, Verizon is the current industry leader in the US.
You can hear horror stories from every carrier so no worries

I use sprint. Yea, i have problem with my provider. It really su(k.
Spring sux. Verizon has the most bars, but ATT has the best media packages (internet, phone, cable and etc.,).
Seriously, ATT has super cheap packages. go check em out =)
I used to have sprint, but the reception was so bad it drove me crazy. T-mobile now, couldn’t be happier.
I’ve heard so many bad reports about sprint and nextel that I’m afraid to even try them out. No, I think I’ll just stick with Verizon.

Used to be on Sprint and had too many dropped calls. Perhaps it was because I was about 100 miles away from a big city but neverless, I’ll stick to Verizon.

I just heard a Sprint radio ad yesterday about their $99 “all in one”, “unlimited” program - web surfing, text messaging, unlimited calls, etc.
After reading these posts, I think I may hold off or look to Cingular.
Sprint Nextel prices are high and their customer service is trash, but the cell reception is great in my area. Lots of people in my are use Nextel, but I’m gonna stick with Cingular because they’ve been good to me.
I’d avoid sprint as much as possible. they have pockets in their network that could cause calls to drop. like holes in swiss cheese. Cingular has been good to me. Prices are okay and I havent had any problems with the bill.

I don’t have one, but I did work as a customer rep for them, and I am telling you there are more bill errors, incompetent staff and people willing to rip you off. If I where you stay away. There cell phones are like any other cell phone but there service is shit.

I don’t have Sprint, I have Verizon and I’ve never had a problem with their service. I don’t know how true it is, but I’ve been hearing stories that Sprint is starting to fire customers that take up too much of their representatives time. Wierd.
I gave up on Sprint when I was slapped with a early cancellation fee back when I was a teenager.
Yes they are rather quick with cancellation fees lol. Their service sucks too..
My experience with them is good. Had no problem with their service and product was fine.
Using nextel doesn’t make sense to me. They are known for their strange business policies..
I had Sprint/Nextel once. Sprint/Nextel prices are high and their services are not good. I stopped using it.
Someday I will
