The Reason I’ve Been Away For So Long… I’ve Been LOST!
by Eric SociaFirst, let me preface this with a disclaimer:
If you have not yet seen LOST and are thinking about watching it from the beginning, OR if you do watch it but have not reached the very last episode of the most recent third season, DO NOT CONTINUE READING! There will more than likely be spoilers ahead. Consider yourselves warned.
So. LOST is the most incredibly intricate and intelligent show I have, perhaps, ever seen.
I just don’t even feel like I could really write a huge and long post about it, because there is literally SO MUCH in my head that I would need to sift through in order to come up with an intelligible or coherent post. So please, forgive me if the rest of this is garbled and/or extremely confusing.
John Locke -
Philosophical references aside, Locke is by far the most interesting character in my opinion. I mean, from the VERY FIRST EPISODE, Locke is portrayed with an extreme air of mystery around him, and I found myself wondering for the first few episodes what the hell was up with him. And then, finding out that up until the flight crashed on this island, Locke had been paralyzed from the waist down, for the previous 4 YEARS?? And now, all of a sudden, after crashing on a deserted island, THE DUDE CAN WALK AGAIN? Bang. Right there, I’m hooked. But, of course, there’s plenty more…
Rose Henderson -
While she may not be a “main” character, Rose is definitely interesting. She seems to distance herself from the rest of the survivors, and is completely and thoroughly convinced that her husband, who was sitting in the now missing tail-section of the airplane, is still alive and they will be reunited again. At first I thought she was a whackjob. Then, after a bunch of episodes where she repeatedly tells other characters that she’s not at all worried about her husband, because she “just knows” that he’s still alive, I began to realize that there was more to her than I first thought. Sure enough, Season 2, Bernard Nadler shows up with the rest of the tail-section survivors. She was right all along.
I’m sorry, I can’t even bother continuing with a list of characters and what makes them so wonderfully and brilliantly written. There’s just too much for me to say about almost every single character that shows up in the series. Instead, I’m going to touch a little bit on the island itself.
Do any of you watch the show? If so, are you as amazed by it as I am? If so…
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE ISLAND IS?
This is the question that my friend Jon and I have been plaguing ourselves with for the last few weeks.
First of all, we’ve come up with the theory that there is some sort of “time dilation” going on with the island. As in, there is no “now, then, or future” as much as there is “here, there, and everywhere”.
I don’t know. There are still FAR too many unanswered questions. Here’s one I’d REALLY like to know the answer to:
What do you think?
I want theories, ideas, possibilities, impossibilities, facts, myths.. anything you can come up with!
What is your favorite thing about the show? Least favorite? Favorite character? Least favorite?
Leave a comment and lets get a real discussion going!

My thinking is that the Island is actually a pocket universe with multiple connections to our universe, perhaps including space/time wormholes. Unless cloaked, it can be detected by magnetic anomalies and perhaps other means. Some physical properties are altered within the pocket. It may have some form of sentience itself or else their are non-human sentients living there.

I haven’t watched Lost yet. I’d probably will sometime =)
My friends are watching LOST, and they said it was really good and that I must watch it too.
I’ve seen the first two seasons on DVD, but I heard quality started falling off in the third season. Is that true?
No, it’s not true. The first six episodes weren’t awesome, but after that, it was great again and the season finale was mind-blowing.

I’m still catching up on Heroes (season 2), I guess I should give LOST a try when i’m done.
I’m a big of Lost too. I record them to DVD sometimes.
There is most definitely a time thing going on on the island. I wont give anything away since you haven’t watched season 3 yet, but I really envy you getting to see it all from the beginning
It’s a fantastic series and the finale of season 3 will spin your head off it’s body

I didn’t read the whole post because I might want to see it…honestly you must be a good salesman cause you got me hyped over watching it… plus dvds make things easy
I am also a big fan of LOST. I consider this series the best among all the series in the world. Wonderful movie. I wait 4th season on January , 2008.
Great article, I am a big lost fan and its good to see others who like it, I hope you write more lost articles

lol I read only the few paragraph and when you read the spoiler warning I simply stopped. I think I might grab the DVD from somewhere but still I am finding it difficult to squish it between Heroes and Supernatural.

I started watching Lost during season 2. I really liked it at first, then I started to get frustrated with how weird it is. I really disliked the whole “button pushing” thing on the computer in the hatch. Just when I was almost ready to stop watching, it started getting good again towards the end of season 3, and the season finale was amazing! I loved it. I don’t think I have ever been more pumped about a TV show. I can’t wait till it comes back on. My favorite character would probably be Sawyer (he’s funny). I also like Kate, Hurley, Jack, and Mr. Echo. Least favorite character would definitely be Ben. What a creepy guy!
LOL
Wait until you get to the end of season 3. It’s a series that you can’t stop watching.

I just started watching the show too — and Im hooked…. Nothing matters anymore except lost… lol
I think it’s quite a great movie. My father spend few days to finish it because he is addicted and love the show.
I can’t imagine that because he is a person who always teach us not to get addicted to anything and always tell us “It’s just a movie.” I’m quite curious what brought him to that stage and think of watching it too.

Thankyou so much, this information really helped me…
I have to admit I watched the first two episodes and couldn’t get into it at all! However I am now thinking I missed something because to get to a 4th series and still be going has to have something in it! I may well now revisit the situation! Thanks

After following season 1 and 2, I ask myself, if Lost will ever have an end ;-).
I’ve heard a lot about this show, but there has been as many bad reviews as good, I suppose you either love it or hate it. I’ll have to try and borrow a DVD set to watch a few episodes to see how it looks.
I think the first series of lost was exceptional- probably due to the fact that it was so different from everything else on TV. It seems to have lost its way somewhat over subsequent series.
same thing happened with me. i started watching lost durning the second season, and started from the very first episode until I caught up. Then i couldn’t wait for the next episodes. then things started getting too complicated and I truly was lost for a while. Some of the people I thought were trustworthy started doing stupid things because of that island, and thats when i started saying, ok, they must have nothing new to make for shows so they are making this thing get out of hand now.

Ah! Lost. I remember watching the show when it first aired on TV. I eventually lost interest sometime during the second season, but I loved it while I watched it. Great stuff.
I’ve always loved that show…but not as much as survivor
Okay, I completely understand getting hooked into a series, currently mine is One Tree Hill. After reading this blog though, I want to know more about Rose Henderson. I’ve heard people talking about LOST, but I thought it was a reality show and not terribly interested. I’ll put LOST on my queue to be sent to me and start watching right away!
That show is very nice, I love it too. But you have to pay attention not to lose too much time for such things !!
I am the die hard fan of Lost….I have been watched till the end of season two.I dont hav a time to see third season due to my work.i missed it.
Where i can to buy or watch second season?
Owned by being lost by Lost
I truly dislike this show. I liked it at first, but it seemed the writers just wanted to keep throwing out new puzzles without solving the old ones.
I fear a final episode: “And it was all just a dream”.

That’s for sure, it’s popular. We talk about it at work all the time.
I have been a big LOST fan since the very first episode. I must say that I am envious that you sat down and watched the entire series so quickly, and with no commercial breaks!
I’ve said from the first episode that John Locke is evil. He’s a bad guy… Mark my words, he is going to turn on his group.

I love this show and would have to agree that it’s one of the best ever made. Locke just gets more and more interesting. I’m also a big fan of the interactions between Hurley and Sawyer. Those two crack me up!

I love Lost especially the last season
I haven’t watched it yet..But, after reading the article..I really like to watch all seasons! The only problem is to find enough time. Maybe, I’ll use my IPod
I love Lost. I think it is very well written and acted. Plus the twists and turns really keep you hooked. I cannot wait to find out what is really going on. Hoorah for Lost.
Cheer.s
I used to watch lost back when it was on TV during the first season. Once the second season rolled around, I grew bored with the show, I’m not sure why exactly. Do they still make new episodes?
I must say, if there’s a good reason for a prolonged absence, LOST would have to be it. Great show, and John Locke is THE MAN!

I’ve never got into the Lost series myself. I prefer Heroes.
I got hooked on Lost too….watched 3 seasons in like 2 weeks. I think that time on the island is slower than actual time in the outside world…they hinted at that in the fantastic episode last week with Desmond quantum time travel lol.
Heroes is great as well, and I just got into Prison Break which really surprised me. If you liked Lost you will like Prison Break just as well….season 1 is incredible!

LOST is the best show on TV. Period!

I’m not a movie or television show buff either but I do know that Lost is hella popular.
My guess is that the island is a fictionalized version of the islands in and around the Bermuda Triangle. They probably used that as a reference point. My guess is that it’s some variation of a wormhole. However, the strangeness on the island is all over the place so who knows?
don’t feel guilty, enjoy your life!
Lost is a lot like a show that ran on CBS in 1979 called “The People of Marrison Island”. That show only lasted 1 season.
